Career opportunities

In professional terms, the MITRA Master’s program aims to train specialists in international migration and prepares its graduates for several types of careers.

  • International organizations such as the European Union, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Labour Organization (ILO) seek experts in public policy analysis (advisors, analysts, legal experts, etc.) as well as in field program management (project managers, program officers, communications officers, etc.).
  • National, regional, and local public institutions, such as national migration offices, need migration specialists to develop policies, manage immigration services, and support refugees. These roles include immigration/integration/border management/migration security advisors, public policy analysts, legal experts, social workers, interpreters, communications officers, and more.
  • NGOs and humanitarian organizations working with migrants, displaced persons, and refugees look for specialists in project management and needs assessment for these populations. In this context, they recruit project managers and program officers, humanitarian assistance specialists, communications officers, advocacy officers on migration/asylum issues, legal experts, international relations officers, humanitarian workers, and others.
  • Research and teaching also represent important career paths for MITRA graduates. Universities and research centers offer job opportunities such as researchers specializing in international migration, lecturers in migration studies, or administrative managers specializing in mobility and student exchange programs.
  • The private sector, particularly law firms and consulting firms, is increasingly hiring specialists in international migration to deal with issues related to asylum applications and residency rights, labor law, international mobility, international recruitment, and more.
